There are several reasons why people may experience dry, cracked heels. Our feet are responsible for holding up our body and therefore they withstand a tremendous amount of pressure. When weight and pressure are applied to the heels of our feet, the skin expands outwards. If our skin is dry, it becomes less elastic and rigid and therefore more prone to fissures and cracking.
The most common causes of dry, cracked heels includes the following: obesity, diabetes, eczema, hypothyroidism, standing for long periods of time, particularly on hard flooring, and open-healed or poorly fitting shoes, as well as dry, cold weather. A lot of the causes of cracked heels are unavoidable so it is essential to do what we can to treat these cracks and maintain good foot hygiene practices. A footlogix prescription pedicure can help you understand the causes of your condition and prescribe the appropriate treatment plan and homecare plan.
Smelly Feet - Fungal Nail Infections
Having smelly feet may be an indicator of a fungal nail infection (known as onychomycosis) happens when a fungus attacks finger or toenails. Fungi can infect the nails through small cuts in skin around nails. While nail infections probably won’t cause serious problems, they can look bad, or damage the nail or the nail bed. In fact, a nail infection could lead to more serious problems if you have diabetes or a weak immune system.
85 percent of nail infections start on the nail bed, and a fungal nail infection is seven times more likely to occur on one of your toenails than on one of your fingernails. Fungal nail infections are also contagious. To avoid these you should
- Ensuring that your toenails are kept clean and trimmed
- Don’t cut your toenails too short
- Wear shoes that fit correctly – for example, high heels and narrow-toed shoes can damage the natural skin seal between your nail and skin underneath
- Don’t share towels with other people!
- Wear cotton socks so your feet can breathe properly.
Smelly Feet -Athletes Foot
Athlete’s foot can also contribute to having smelly feet. This is a type of fungal skin infection. Fungi (the plural of fungus) are microscopic plant-like organisms that thrive in damp, warm environments. It can easily be treated by using good footcare practices and a regular application of Footlogix Peeling skin formula. This formula, with Dermal Infusion Technology®, provides relief of peeling, scaling, itching between the toes and irritation associated with fungal infections. Contains Clotrimazole, an effective anti-fungal agent. Protects and cares for clammy feet prone to Athlete’s Foot.
Dry, Flaky skin
At this wintry time of year, many of us will be feeling the itch !! Dry heels and itchy feet due to dry skin is a common problem especially during the winter months when the central heating is cranked up, footwear is enclosed and humidity levels at home are at an all time low. When you cannot concentrate on your work because you are scratching, when your sleep is interrupted because of burning, when you have noticeable dry skin on your heels and feet, help is at hand. Having a pedicure is a great way to exfoliate dry skin cells, moisturise the new skin beneath and leave you floating on air. Especially when the products used are full of great ingredients such as micro algae and Urea.
