Cracked Heels

There are several reasons why people may experience dry, cracked heels. Our feet are responsible for holding up our body and therefore they withstand a tremendous amount of pressure. When weight and pressure are applied to the heels of our feet, the skin expands outwards. If our skin is dry, it becomes less elastic and rigid and therefore more prone to fissures and cracking.

The most common causes of dry, cracked heels includes the following: obesity, diabetes, eczema, hypothyroidism, standing for long periods of time, particularly on hard flooring, and open-healed or poorly fitting shoes, as well as dry, cold weather. A lot of the causes of cracked heels are unavoidable so it is essential to do what we can to treat these cracks and maintain good foot hygiene practices. A footlogix prescription pedicure can help you understand the causes of your condition and prescribe the appropriate treatment plan and homecare plan.

Smelly Feet - Fungal Nail Infections

Fungal Nail Infection

Having smelly feet may be an indicator of a fungal nail infection (known as onychomycosis) happens when a fungus attacks finger or toenails. Fungi can infect the nails through small cuts in skin around nails. While nail infections probably won’t cause serious problems, they can look bad, or damage the nail or the nail bed. In fact, a nail infection could lead to more serious problems if you have diabetes or a weak immune system.

85 percent of nail infections start on the nail bed, and a fungal nail infection is seven times more likely to occur on one of your toenails than on one of your fingernails. Fungal nail infections are also contagious. To avoid these you should

  1. Ensuring that your toenails are kept clean and trimmed
  2. Don’t cut your toenails too short
  3. Wear shoes that fit correctly – for example, high heels and narrow-toed shoes can damage the natural skin seal between your nail and skin underneath
  4. Don’t share towels with other people!
  5. Wear cotton socks so your feet can breathe properly.
If you think you have a fungal nail infection please don’t let it put you off having a pedicure. With Footlogix we can help identify these problems and make suggestions on how to help.
